Trapos Sucios (2018)
This work comprises eight panels meant to be arranged in three rows on the floor or on a very low platform. As a whole, Trapos Sucios alludes to archaeology/anthropology museum displays, while challenging expectations of how paintings should be oriented in a gallery. Individually, the paintings on burlap reference a variety of hand icons, including the power fists of activist organizations and political parties, laborers' hands, Pre-Columbian hieroglyphs, and product logos stenciled on sacks. The title of the work literally means "dirty rags" in Spanish, but its connotation translates as "dirty laundry," an additional indicator of the work's political underpinnings.
